History
The history of the maintenance program is short, but we have come along ways towards forming a group that can safely do trail clearing and ensure GF ATV is compliant with insurance requirements.
Funding
GF ATV applies for approximately $30 – $50k thousand dollars a year for trail improvements, equipment repairs, replacing damaged signage each year. RDKB area D, B, C, have been great supporters. Currently area D is funding trail repairs of the trails in the N.F.
Trail Improvements
There have been many trail clearing days so far this year. Volunteer hours accumulated 450 hours.
Trail Maintenance concerns
- Volunteer engagement, burn out.
- Tool replacement.
- There was a discussion regarding the sharing of equipment and what equipment would be best for doing trail clearing and maintenance.
- Would RDKB area EDCB fund equipment for GF ATV to maintain trails?
- Linda Kay mentioned she would bring this forward to RDKB.
- The importance of engaging industry was discussed.
- Having a GF ATV trail not combined with a FSR was discussed.
Current equipment
- The Trailblazer has been determined to be sold it is just not the right one for us.
- Kootenay Rocky ATV has a sickle saw we could try out, they have it for sale.
- Lane Shark is an option.
- There was much discussion about what is the right piece of equipment.
- To rent for a few months or buy.
- How to move it from one site to another?
- Can we share with other groups.
- If it is too big RSTBC and MOF will not allow us to use it on the trails.
Trail Condition
All our trails will need maintenance. Encouraging folks to report trail concerns is important.
Site & Trail Usage
Site and trail usage has increased our sign in sheets show many more folks are using the region. This is good news for economic development.
