Grand Forks ATV held their fourth Accessibility Ride at the Station Pub in Grand Forks. GFATV partnered with the Station Pub and sponsor Jedal Plumbing to provide a lunch , historical presentation, and a ride for forty participants. Lunch provided by the Station Pub was excellent, the presentation was well received. The riders were able to travel over the historic Columbia Western Rail Line. Leaving the Station and travelling towards Eholt was a great experience many participants would not be able to do, due to age and mobility problems. The event allowed all of the participants to experience great views of the North Fork Valley , old locations such as Fisherman Station, Granby Station had points of interest signage installed and traveling through the first tunnel was a unique experience. Other noted historic locations such as the CPR Round House, currently Boundary Electric and the origin of Coalchute Road, bulk coal bins were located for the steam engines, were discussed during the presentation. The riders “Ticket To Ride”, intended to be a keep sake for many, had interesting pictures and a write up on many points of interest such as Smelter Lake. Smelter Lake was part of the 1907 Tesla three phase power project placing dams at Cascade Gorge, Smelter Lake and 28 Mile flats. These dams were to contain water for year-round power production, powering the Grand Forks Smelter. All of these points of interest can be seen by participants when riding the trail, the excitement and enjoyment expressed by the participants is what GFATV member volunteers, that donate their time and equipment, love the most about the event and make this event one of GFATV’s favorite.

When asked why GFATV holds these Accessibility Rides, President Doug Zorn, explained. “ One of our first funding opportunities was a New Horizons For Seniors proposal. The Get Up Get Out and Join In, was our very first fully funded project. It allowed GFATV to get a solid start. Our volunteers experience a great day of laughs, excitement from folks who would not be able to experience a great ride, do to age and mobility issues. Many of our members have mobility issues and love to share their experience with others.”
GFATV would like to thank the Station Pub and staff as well Jedal Plumbing for their support.
Big thanks to Louise and all GFATV members who came out for the event.
